One yard decor cannot be complete without a seating area and although you may think of adding a table and chairs, a bench is also a common choice. Benches can be found in so many versatile styles, so you will for sure find the right one for your yard.
You can choose to buy some, or maybe even try to make some on your own. For instance you can make a bench out of palettes. Arrange the palettes in the way you like, whether that will be a narrow or a curved bench. Leave it like that or maybe paint the palettes. And of course add some pillows and cushions to make it more comfortable.
One way to decorate the area around the tree in your yard is to build a bench around it. This will also give you a place where you can sit and relax and enjoy in the beautiful day. And guess what, it is not that difficult to built one such bench and today we want to show you how you can do it.
This project may take you some time to finish it, but you will love when you see the final result of it. You can do it on your own or maybe make it with a partner to help you lift heavy pieces and fit the sections together. Here is a list of the materials that you will need to get before starting with this project:
- strips of cardboard to create a template and spacers
- ¼ – inch – thick scrap lumber or shims
- 5⁄4×6 decking for the seat and stringers for the leg assemblies
- 2×6 framing for the backrest, legs and apron 3⁄8×4 – inch galvanized carriage bolts
- 3/8-inch galvanized locking washers
- 3/8-inch nuts
- 2-inch stainless-steel deck screws
- 3-inch stainless-steel deck screws
- wood glue
You can make a bench around the tree out of versatile types of wood, or maybe out of other materials, such as stones, concrete, bricks, palettes etc. Or if you wish to take this seating area to a whole new level, you can even build a deck around the tree in your yard. Make sure to allow enough space for the tree’s mature size. Add some pillows and cushions and enjoy in the naps under the shadow of the tree.
